Well I'm going to describe what I did on Christmas Day this year. I guarantee that some of you will read this and be like "how uneventful", but I had a lot of fun today.
I will say one thing. I did not leave my house today. There were no guests over. We don't have any family in the states. There were no friends over. Today consisted of just me in my room while each member of this family was off doing their own stuff. Before I give a more detailed hour by hour description, I will say that this day can really be summed up in three letters but I'm choosing to do paragraphs instead. The three letters are N, B, and A. And no, those aren't name initials. Those stand for National Basketball Association. Perhaps you've heard of it, perhaps you haven't. Anyways, on with it. (Oh by the way, if you don't like the NBA or aren't interested in it's games, just skip to the last paragraph where I move away from the NBA, because every paragraph before it will just be me noting stuff that happened in those games.)
So I set my alarm for 9 A.M. since that was the time the first NBA game, Celts vs Knicks, started. I naturally didn't heed that alarm. I turned it off and went back to sleep. I was awoken an hour later when I got 2 "Merry Christmas" texts. I thank those people for them, even though they probably don't read this blog. After these two texts, I replied, and at this point figured that since I was up anyways I might as well just get up. So I turned on the T.V. and the first game was underway. It was halftime when I started watching so, hey, good timing for me. This game showed me one thing. Tyson Chandler ain't a joke. He really played excellent defense at crucial times, and the Knicks actually got stops!!! You might have to take a short while to digest the fact that NY played defense. Oh, and don't let anyone tell you that Melo isn't clutch. It's just a lie. He is very clutch. The next game was... Heat Mavs! The reason I couldn't think of this game is simple. It was a horrendous showing by the Mavs. I don't care that they're the defending world champs. I don't care that Marion thinks they should get more respect. They didn't play like they deserved it. They just got destroyed. Literally. You know why the final score looked like it wasn't that bad? Two things: 1) The Heat roster is really just three guys (I'm ignoring the fact that we only got to see the man formerly known as Chris Bosh today), so the second unit really blew a huge lead. 2) Jason Terry played like a world champ. He didn't lose a step in the lockout. Yeah there's seriously nothing to note here besides the fact that Marion got rid of his hair (Thank god for that. His previous hairstyle was cringe worthy).
Somewhere in that Mavs Heat game I got lunch consisting of dumplings. Good lunch. On to the afternoon games! The next one is Bulls vs Lakers. I honestly misread this one. I thought that the Lakers roster of 2 + 10 was going to just get owned, but it seems there were a few things I forgot about. Kobe is ageless, the white guys Mcbob, Murphy, and Blake were decent, Boozer isn't returning to his domination form immediately (btw, I'm one of those people that question if he'll ever return to that form), Rose wasn't really playing like the MVP for most of the game, and Chicago's offense wasn't what I expected (Yes I expected bad but...). That Rose game winning layup was B-E-A-utiful. Kobe's last three possessions, as far as I can remember, resulted in something like miss, turnover, blocked shot, so not his most clutch game either. Gasol really should stop shooting threes. I know he can hit them in practice but... you're already considered soft by many people. And shooting threes helps your reputation... how exactly? Did I mention I don't like Boozer? Because I need to mention that. I feel like the Lakers gave this one away during the last few minutes of the fourth quarter. Besides the Kobe... errors, there were also a bunch of missed free throws. Oh, and Deng is indeed quite a good player. But you know, the Lakers managed to stick in this game despite having a roster of 2 players. So maybe there is no need to panic, but then again... all Laker fans know how to do is panic over the smallest thing so... yeah commence panic LOLOL.
The next game is obviously my favorite. You know why? It involves my THUNDER!!!!!!!! Yeah this game wasn't that great. Dwight Howard really can't do shit against Perkins huh... Yeah he got a double double, but he wasn't really that effective throughout the game. Oh and Westbrook with a high turnover game. I don't really mind this anymore. You know why? Because if Westbrook isn't out there being Westbrook, you have Durant getting tripled teamed, Sefolosha trying to play offense, and Perkins... well... we all know Perkins shouldn't touch the ball on offense. Oh and on Orlando's side... I'm starting to believe Otis Smith is just trying to get fired now. This literally goes back to last year. First off, you trade Rashard Lewis for Gilbert Arenas. I know Lewis isn't that good, but at least he isn't a pure headcase and you'll know exactly what he produces, and he fits the team. Areans... that was a bad failure. They amnestied him so... he clearly didn't work out. And they had Vince Carter before that. And they traded one mistake for another by giving up Carter for Turkoglu. Which would have been fine if they hadn't given up Gortat in the process. Because you know, now they have no depth on the inside, and to fix this they traded Brandon Bass for Glen Davis... I have to ask. WHY!?!!?!??!!?!??!!?!?!? Glen Davis sucks! And he's your third big man? (Second if you don't consider Ryan Anderson a big man.) It's no surprise Howard wants to leave. Seriously.
OK... back to actually talking about the NBA games, not about crappy GMs. Actually... I'll get to that later lol. The last game of the night is... Lob City (Clippers) vs Warriors. This sounds like it'd be a really fun game right? WRONG! It was honestly a horrible game. We were reminded of one thing. Chauncy Billups has been bad for a while, only we don't see it because he occasionally makes a big shot, and very few people stop and think how many bad shots he took in order to hit the big shot. I mean... he's just trigger happy at random times when he really shouldn't be. He takes way too many bad shots, only they go in sometimes, SOMETIMES, when it matters, and thus all is forgiven. Chris Paul really cruised this game. I think he forgot that he's Chris Paul. Blake Griffin just played bad. Deandre Jordan showed up though. He was a swat machine. He blocked nearly everything that came in. Great performance if we ignore the fact that he went 4-12 at the free throw line. Caron Butler is... Caron Butler. I can't really say much about him because I still don't know if I like him or if I hate him. On the Warriors side, Curry had a pretty bad shooting night. Dorell Wright was invisible. Apparently he grabbed nine boards, but he was really invisible this game. David Lee and Andris Biedrins both had good games. And Monta Ellis... He said he would start playing a more well rounded game but... I don't know if that was what happened. The box scores say he has 8 assists but... it felt like old "take every shot" Ellis. Ugh... the only good part of this game was that in the last 5 minutes of the fourth quarter Chris Paul woke up, remembered who he was, and flat out dominated. Game was over once he decided to play.
I don't think I ever talked about what happened in this joke of an off-season, so I might as well. Uhh... Dallas... I understand that you're trying to make yourselves players in the next free agency. That's not a bad choice. I just wish that you didn't gut your roster to do it. Boston... did nothing wrong really. The Jeff Green situation just screwed you over. It's life. They did good by getting rid of Big Baby Davis though. Lakers... I don't understand. I really don't. Getting Chris Paul I can see. You want a young star that plays more than 50 games a season (Bynum), and Paul is completely marketable. For cripes sake look at what he turned the Clippers into, and it's only been two weeks. Season tickets sold out. Preseason games at full capacity. Are these really the Clippers??? But what I don't get is the trade for Odom. You really traded the 6th man of the year, guy who fills in for the annual Bynum injury, 15-8 guy for... money and a second round pick?... Really? Speaking of LA, good job Clippers. Good job. Now just pray that Sterling quits. Then you'll be the next big thing. BTW, the Hornets walked away from that trade in good shape. They got Eric Gordon, Minnesota's number 1 pick, Aminu, and Kaman. Good young assets and a center on a contract year. They won't stink like Cleveland did when Lebron left for sure. Chicago did good getting Rip (even if he is old and probably not the same as the champion Rip). Tyson Chandler seems like he could make a difference with the Knicks. The teams I'm watching this year are the Clippers (Lob City, need more be said?), the Timberwolves (Love, Rubio, Williams, Johnson, my god... so much potential), the Wizards (if John Wall makes the Leap, I don't want to miss it), and the Thunder (THUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
So basketball aside, I did watch a new episode of Leverage today. That was great. I love that show (maybe a little too much... that show is seriously influencing my opinion on alcohol...). I do recommend it, just because I like it obviously. No other justification needed. Dinner was good. Lunch was good. I didn't nap today (this is actually quite an accomplishment for me). Bought myself a new game for $5 (a true bargain, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it). Good Christmas. Few days left till New Years. Maybe on that day I'll do more than just watch the NBA all day (uhhh... don't hold out hope for that happening lol... the NBA captivates me). There is one bad habit I have picked up during these two weeks off. I watch too much Food Network at night. It's really like self torture. I see amazing food on the T.V., but I can't eat anything late at night so... I just starve LOL. In fact I'm doing that as we speak :). OK I finally got all of that NBA stuff out of the system. More normal post next time (whenever next time actually is...).
