An odd habit during conversations

Here's a story of something that happened today. So it's after my physics class, and I am talking with this guy while he waits for his ride. Halfway or so through, he continually asks me "You can go if you want to", at which point I think to myself "Wait... am I doing something to irritate this guy?". Then I realize that throughout the conversation I've been looking in nearly every direction EXCEPT at the guy I'm talking to. Once I realize this I quickly start explaining myself.

Which brings me to the point of this post. When I engage in a conversation with anyone, after a little while it will be likely that I start looking in every single other direction. This does not mean that you're boring me (you know I would just come out and say this if I wanted to). Rather, it's just an odd habit I have. It most likely stems from the fact that I have been and still am a socially awkward person. I mean, there's no way to get around the fact that I'm bad at this stuff. Looking around is more of a way for me to feel comfortable. It's hard for me to focus fully on a person, no matter how interesting they might be. So if I have done this to anyone during conversation, please forgive me. I swear it is not a sign of disrespect or lack of attention. It is only a problem of mine that I suppose I will now have to work to fix. :)
